’Priest'Comic Book

What a graphic book it is! I truly enjoyed it and I must say the combination between Sci Fi, fantasy, western and Gothic motives has produced spectacular results. The main characters seem to have had the opportunity to get their designer suit collections by Alexander McQueen – a truly well made comic book Priest is!

The book is designed, written and completely made by a Korean comic writer. He has incorporated several styles and techniques in his novels describing various events in corresponding cartooning techniques and methods. The overall edgy illustrations are making the comic look even better and I must admit that combining the particular features of several historic periods and genres has turned out to be quite successful.

The plot tells the story of Ivan Isaacs – a priest trained by the Church to defend mankind against 12 fallen angels. The basics of the story are related with the love that God has for mankind – this makes 12 angels from heavens to fall on earth and, blinded by envy for not receiving the most of God’s love, to initiate a war against humanity. Ivan Isaacs is the protagonist and the leader of the angels is his main opposing force – their struggle for domination and the desire for Ivan to revenge his personal loss lead them to a series of spectacularly depicted adventures.

The comic books were also incorporated slightly in a similar story for the big screens in the movie “Priest” where a highly trained priest fights against the long mankind enemy – the vampires.

The comic book is extremely successful among comic lovers and offers the best of experience for comic lovers. A truly spectacular work by Korean comic art specialists.

We Should Be Living in a Sci Fi World

Did anyone else get told as a kid that we would have flying cars by the year 2000? Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but I definitely remember reading from a “scientific” source some time in the 80’s about cars that would do all kinds of cool things. This includes–and I swear I remember reading this–bumpers that were going to be installed on the sides of highways that would “pilot” drivers to their destination. Am I the only one who read that article?

Okay, here’s one that’s a little more substantial. For those of you who don’t feel like clicking, researchers at Duke University have figured out how to build an invisibility cloak. Sci fi brethren everywhere, rejoice! WHY ISN’T IT IN OUR HANDS? (Okay, so it’s not truly an invisibility cloak, but the idea is there, and who knows what they’re NOT showing us . . .)

At my sister’s wedding recently, I ran into an old friend who was telling me about her sister. “She works for a company that contracts with the Defense Department,” my friend told me. “Sometimes we’ll joke with her about when the giant transforming robots are coming. She’ll just give us a look.” The implication, of course, is that THESE THINGS ARE BEING DEVELOPED AND MAY WELL ALREADY EXIST.

Again, I ask, why don’t we have them? Why do we have hybrid cars and GPS’s instead of flying cars and transforming robots? Why do I have to live in a (relatively) boring world, where I have to turn on a six-year-old computer to fly around a city?

Somebody get me the Department of Defense of the phone . . .

Comic Book Conventions are Mainstream

If you tell someone you are going to a comic book convention they may get an image of you being a nerd who likes to surround yourself with other nerds. But they would have no idea how huge comic book and sci fi conventions are today. These conventions held all over the world are fast becoming launching pads for movies, television and anything in the comic/sci fi universe.

Do you want to see your favorite Science Fiction celebrities? Well you can, many of them are at these conventions. Often there will be panels where actors from TV shows and movies will share their behind the scene stories. There may also be a chance for audience to ask questions to these celebrities. If you want to get closer to these celebrities you can always visit their autograph table and maybe get a picture along with their autograph.

You will also find people who dress up as their favorite characters. You may meet stormtroopers, Superman, Klingons or the X-men. These costumes are not cheap; people spend much time on it and get them professionally designed like you would get a professional designer homeware to design your kitchen.

These comic book conventions are becoming larger and larger. Thousands of people are flocking to them just to catch a glimpse of their favorite celebrities or to hang out with Spider-man. As these conventions grow more popular it becomes vital that anyone making a science fiction or a comic book movie and television show must be there.

The games these days are now either living in the past or thinking way into the future, the interim we live in lies in between the recovery of wars and future possible wars. Hence the developers of games now find it a new hobby to make games that relate to the either of the two with their own free imagination.
Taking games like Operation Flashpoint : Red River, Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 into perspective, we can take a look into the creative minds of great game inventors. Battlefield 3 and Red River are scenarios that will increasingly become popular in the next 10 to 20 years. US continued mistrust in other countries will lead a continued occupation of Central Asia where it may possibly stand off against Chinese forces or else continued invasion of the Middle East that is an ally and a threat to the US. For instance, if Saudi Arabia, the blood line of US-Middle East relations falls due to high terrorists activity, the US will either simply stand by or invade. Modern Warfare 3 tends to pick up on growing Western insecurities, it paints a bigger picture of the West on the whole faces a common Eastern force, be it the terrorist or other threats I do not wish to say as it is not confirmed.
But this puts us into perspective of how even the largest entertainment industry makes billions of usd dollars out of stories that could possibily exist in the future, but one thing if for sure, the ideas are not remote and impossible, they are very much possible, if so correctly projected, this would be how the world would look like in the decades to come. Asimov’s Foundations

There is hardly anything more fascinating than the books that Isaac Asimov wrote and the works with which contributed for the development of the sci fi genre in the modern literature. It is like a genetic code – his works remain inspiration, constructive blocks of the modern day sci fi culture. He has inspired some of the blockbusters of the 21st century (Will Smith’s ’I, the Robot’) and has made a general contribution to the world of science giving inspiring ideas to young scientists (from his notorious books from the Foundation series).

Foundation was his best, most extensive work composed of various tales on sci fi motives dedicated to future space exploration and exlaining the world of progressive scientific innovations that he predicted long before they were established as factual occurrences by scientists of the 21st century. The Foundation series was first released as a small collection of tales, but due to an increasingly spreading interest and success, the author kep adding up, reaching thousands of pages of works. Currently, they contain some of the most extensive wisdom in the sci fi culture and the language and scientific explanations that are revealed there remain surprisingly accurate even in the advanced modern era of communication and technology.

The plot of the books is always circulating around space travel, robotics, artificial intelligence, discovery of unexplained natural phenomenon and different aspects of life on other plants. Definitely, also focusing on the human psychology of advanced research and virtue enrichment, the books remain a socialogically influencing factors for people who are seeking for promotion of human values in different aspects.

So, you might sell your gold and get some of Asimov’s books – you will definitely make a quite good investment.

The REAL Danger of First Contact.

If we ever do make ‘contact'with extra-terrestrial life, then I wonder what it will actually look like? The Science Fiction genre has existed for many years and authors have dreamt up all manner of different ‘life-forms’; from clunky and robotic ‘humanoids'to insectile or reptilian creatures. Of course, the beauty of it is that no-one knows if there are aliens out there… let alone what they look like!

And then there is the personality side of it all to consider… Most Sci-Fi writers would agree that aliens must have a higher intellect than us, especially if they are capable of travelling through time and space. But what sort of creatures would they be; kind and peaceful or sadistic and cruel? There have been countless stories written about both! Would they bend over backwards to help us find: a cure to cancer, a way of living without wars and a realistic mobile roaming solution ? Or would they be far more interested in eating our brains, burning our furniture and stealing the elastic from our grandmothers'knickers? (Well, it’s possible, isn’t it???)

Personally, I hope we never get to meet alien beings. This is not because I’m scared (although perhaps my grandmother should be), but because it would totally ruin Science Fiction overnight!!! It would make every Sci-Fi story woefully inaccurate and it would also place serious limits on this wonderfully imaginative genre.

So, if there are any extra-terrestrials reading this; get lost! We don’t want you coming down here spoiling our books and films!
